“A man has to have goals-for a day, for a life-time-and that was mine, to have people say, ‘there goes Ted Williams, the greatest hitter who ever lived.” (Page 597)
And he surely accomplished that goal. It is an arguable topic of course if he is indeed the greatest hitter ever, but if it wasn’t for missing all those years for the war (downing his career numbers), it might not be much of an argument.
