Out in Chatsworth, California, is a high school named Sierra Canyon, and over the past couple year they have been heavily expanding their athletic facilities. First came the $8 million basketball gym, then the new football field, and finally came the baseball field this year, which is right next to the football field. In 2014, the Sierra Canyon Trailblazers fell to Village Christian in the division VI baseball championship game, failing to give the school another sporting title after the football team won the division IV state title in 2011. But now that the Trailblazer baseball team has a brand new field, they could very well win a championship in style this year in 2015, with coach Rick Weber leading the charge.
This fantastic new baseball field is Sierra Canyon’s field of dreams. Once one walks onto the turf, they immediately get those baseball goosebumps. The city of Chatsworth has many beautiful wide open views, that includes lots of large grassy plains, which is what the football and baseball fields were built on. When one looks out into the outfield, the blue sky and smell of grass are experienced, and in right center field is a big green slate with “Sierra Canyon” written on it; a kind of miniature “green monster”. The very well designed bleachers and dugouts give a sense of inner beauty to simplicity. The bullpen mounds are down the right and left field lines in foul territory, which is the definition of baseball simplicity. Why should a high school field or college field, for that matter, have fancy modern like features that the MLB stadiums do, when simplicity is all one needs in a baseball diamond. Sierra Canyon’s new facility for America’s past time is truly a “field of dreams”, with its perfectly aligned dugouts, bleachers, and diamond, that spell out the beauty of the wonderful American game.
