Giants Get Their First Legitimate Closer Since Brian Wilson

The last time the Giants had a legitimate all-star closer was in 2011 when Brian Wilson was closing the door. Since then it has been a revolving door mostly between Santiago Casilla and Sergio Romo. Now at least for the next two years the Giants will have a man they can depend on to shut the door in the 9th. Mark Melancon has an opt-out clause after two years wired into his $62 million 4-year pact. But, the question is, how much of a solution will Melancon be for San Fran’s pen? Dodgers Re-sign Rich Hill, but Where Does He Fit In?

Rich Hill’s new 3-year deal is worth $48 million. However, it is a questionable deal. Not on whether or not he will perform, but where he fits in. Astros Continue to Steal the Offseason Spotlight by Adding Carlos Beltran

After trading for Brian McCann, then signing Josh Reddick, the Astros go out and sign Carlos Beltran. With the deal only being for 1-year, $16 million, Houston is clearly going for it all. So, how will Houston’s third big move fit into their 2017 playoff run? Beltran was a key part of the Astros 2004 playoff run. Beltran blasted 8 homers in 12 playoff games. However, that was more than 10 years ago, and the Astros aren’t paying for the player he was. Beltran collected a WAR of 2.0 at 39-years-old this past season as well as an OPS+ of 122.
