They called him “Charlie Hustle”, as he was the hardest, most rambunctious player to ever step on the field besides Ty Cobb. Pete Rose played in a record 3562 games while racking up the most plate appearances and at-bats in baseball history on his way to becoming the hit king with a total of 4256 (10 seasons with 200+). The leader of the Big Red Machine back in late 70’s, also had over 700 doubles, 100 triples, and hit .300 or better in 15 of 17 campaigns from 1965-1981. Fun Fact of the Day: The Home Run Derby has been an exciting event since 1985, including many memorable performances and winners. There have only been three players to win it more than once; Prince Fielder (2), Yoenis Cespedes (2), and Ken Griffey Jr. (3). There have been winners who weren’t really true power hitters in the past, but there are also those who were some of the best sluggers of all-time including Jr. who had 3 amazing derby performances. Tigers Add Neftali Feliz to Pen

Over the past few seasons the Detroit Tigers have been slowed on their road to winning the Fall Classic, mainly due to their lack of bullpen production. Before 2014, the problem for the bullpen in Detroit was lack of talent, so they added former KC closer Joakim Soria, veteran 9th inning man Joe Nathan, and Joba Chamberlain; they were then stacked enough to pull through and possibly win the series. But, then after winning their 4th consecutive AL Central title, the Tigers got swept in the ALDS all thanks to not being able to hold leads in the late innings. Most Grand Slams in a Season

Fun Fact of the Day: Two players have hit 6 grand slams during one season. The first was Don Mattingly in 1987, then Travis Hafner accomplished it in 2006. Both of these guys were tremendous sluggers with slugging percentages above .450 for their careers. Both of those seasons each player finished in the top 10 MVP voting, and well deserved it as they each hit 30+ homers, 100+ RBI’s.
