“There are only two stats that matter to a team, and that’s RBI and runs scored, Everything else is individual stuff, arbitration stuff.” Muser was always seen as a manager who tried to get a run scored no matter what.

Pepper Martin

“Well sir, I grew up in Oklahoma and out there, once you start running there ain’t nothin’ to stop you.” In response to a reporter’s question of where Martin learned the run the way he does. The former Cardinals’ outfielder and 3rd baseman led the NL in stolen bases 3/4 years from 1933-1936.
