“Trying to hit Carl Hubbell’s screwball was like a guy trying to hit fungos out of a well.” One of the true great hitters from the 1920’s and 1930’s describing how much of an impossible pitch Hubbell’s screwball was, as it was so hard to throw that it is now almost extinct.
