“He is the kind of boy who makes his scout’s job safe for 20 years.” Rickey on Gil Hodges’ arrival in Brooklyn in 1947. Hodges was one of the best first baseman of the mid-1900’s.

Roger Maris

“A season’s a season.” When Maris broke the single season home run record, he was very humble about it, with a laid back attitude. However, he never had a season even close to as good as that historical campaign, so maybe he should have been more enthusiastic.
