Jon Lester’s Decision Bolsters Cubs Rotation

Finally the decision is made. Jon Lester has reportedly agreed to a $155 million deal over 6 years to head the Chicago Cubs rotation. He is going to receive an average of $25 million/year. The 106-year WS drought could be over within the next couple years as this Winter Meetings deal will be talked about for years and years to come. The D-backs Plan

The Diamondbacks run to the playoffs with the Western Division title back in 2011 was a great season for Arizona. Then in 2012 they made the playoffs again. But in 2013 and 2014 Arizona went cold as they finished 81-81 then 64-98. In addition they fired Manager Kirk Gibson in September. Cubs Trade for Montero

Reportedly the Cubs and D-Backs have agreed to a trade that will send Miguel Montero to the Cubs in exchange for 2 minor league pitchers. Those two pitchers are Jefferson Mejia and Zack Godley. This deal is absolutely huge for the Cubs after losing out on Russell Martin. Wellington Castillo is a good catcher with power in his bat and arm as well as his pitch framing, but he is not quite good enough for 130+ games in the starting role. Week of 12-1-14

Legend of the Week Ryne Sandberg was one of the best 2nd basemen of the 80’s and early 90’s. He was a career long Chicago Cub. His career batting average is .285. He was a very good all around player who appeared in 10 all star games. His 7 seasons with over 100 runs and his 9 gold gloves highlight the Hall of Fame career that Sandberg put together.
